Jello was one of three dogs relinquished to us by a family with too many dogs from the Puxico area in May 2019. We just listed her 6/12/19. Jello is submissive and of a very sweet temperament. She is SO sweet that the other dogs picked on her, making her weary or worried she was going to be spanked for whatever she thought or did. It was hard for her at first to feel comfortable in our pack of 16 or more dogs at all times loose in our yard. However, suddenly I see her out of my kitchen window playing tag with other dogs in the yard and becoming part of the "pack." She is GREAT around small kids and is a dog who would flee instead of fight if she felt overwhelmed by the little kids. Jello loves being held, actually is so over-joyed that at first she is a big wiggly, then she will collapse on my lap and usually lay her head up my chest to look in my eyes for approval. I REALLY LOVE THIS GAL and you will too. IF you are a patient person who wants a quiet super sweet dog this is your gal. She follows by my side while I walk around outside doing my chores. She looks at me with wonder and love. If you are kind hearted, not in a hurry, and have an understanding soul, you will mold this gal into a most cherished of a companion. If you want a brave, bold dog, check out some of our other dogs. She needs a good match to understand her soft behavior. Mature weight around 17-18 pounds Adoption fee is $250. This former stray was dumped with a male 3/25/19. We held her until 6/12/19 to list so all her shots were done. She can be a city or country dog, I would prefer a city since she had a liking to wandering even as a pup. She would be best with a fenced in yard even if in the country. I can not promise she would not wander. She is somewhat independent here and really needs a home with plenty time to get her out on a leash to commit to you and your routine. I had her on a leash one time and she was GREAT in just a couple minutes. This dog is SUPER SMART and should have a dog savvy owner who will teach her obedience then she will not outsmart you! Soft luxurious coat, striking white. A real beauty to behold. Mature weight should be around 80 pounds more or less. Adoption fee is $250. Tucker was a stray in Stoddard County, rural Puxico MO, near the Mingo Wildlife Park. He is a true Dachshund by heart, liking to dig his bedding before taking a nap. He as a strong hunting drive for the bunnies and squirrels too. He is a HOOT of a dog, showing so much personality. He is a talker, and can be a barker, but the squirt bottle works wonders. When he came he could have cared less about us. We fed him, and he "expected that", but now he has come to love us and even though he is not a mushy guy, he loves to be near us on the couch and feels a need to check up on what my husband is doing then what I am doing. Very reliable as a house-broken dog, but he still acts like an intact male around new females (mounting to annoy them). If they will spank him he says, "OK OK I GET IT! I will behave. He may be too active for young children. I suggest this guy be the dog for an 8-10 year old or for a young man or woman who wants a playful dog with personality. He had heartworms which we have treated. We LOVE THIS GUY! Mr. Personality! Adoption fee is $250. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Mature weight 24 pounds. Age 18-24 months or less as of June 2019. COOKIE was abandoned with another large mix breed male when renters moved. The property owner was Mrs. Baker, so the name COOKIE BAKER seems appropriate and she seems to like it! We have no idea on her history, what her breed background is, but she sure looks like a Heeler mix with a small terrier type and she has some heeler behaviors. This pretty gal prances and is playful. She LOVES to chase the end of a hose and will take the water full force in her mouth as if to "catch it." She also will chase a beam of light in the dark. She chases butterflies and birds when outside playing. She also chases cars out of our long driveway, so this gal MUST be in a fenced in area or always on a leash because when chasing a vehicle, she will NOT listen to stop. She can be a bit mouthy so no small kids. BEST in a home with kids age 10 and up who will stop the chasing with the hose or beam of light when you tell them too and not aggravate or tease her by playing too hard too. I think of her as a "free spirit." Adoption fee is $250 To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Mature weight should be 40-60 pounds. BARBIE and her brother OMAR were given to me after I had received a call about a dead puppy on Highway H and the pups little brother was lying beside it. At that time BARBIE and OMAR waere probably 9-weeks of age. Well, that is what the owner would later tell me. A school bus driver stopped and picked up the living puppy, which was skin on bones thin, so we thought it was possible they had been dumped or strayed after following mom along the highway. I saw their red brindle mom and also I saw two more pups. All were skin on bones thin. They gave me the sister (BARBIE), but kept the remaining brindle male. So I taught them about de-worming since I knew some of OMAR's condition if not all his problems, were due to a high stomach parasite invasion. OMAR and BARBIE are two of the smartest pups I have had in a long time. They will be easy to house train, easy to train...period. Both are MOUTHY so I will NOT adopt to a family with kids under the age of 8...period. OMAR seems to be alpha too. So as he matures he is possibly best as the only male in the home, as he even as a pup is not afraid to show dominance over a small dog or argue over a toy. Another reason he should NOT be with small kids. BARBIE is more of a middle of the road. She avoids conflict, but is not a wimp. High food motivation, so that also helps to train them quickly. Omar will sit and wait for his food. Sister Barbie will jump on me with excitement she can't contain. Life would be so much easier for BARBIE if OMAR were not around to be watching her all the time... BOTH love to be held and want human contact. They MELT when I sit and hold them. Adoption fee is $250. each. If you live in our area and can use one of our Partner vets for the neuter or spay we will pay for the surgery. We also will pay for any remaining shots. BOTH pups are already microchipped. IF you live to far to use our Partner Vets we will offer a $50 refund with proof of neuter or spay when of age. OMAR should be 8-10 months of age before neuter. Barbie should be 6 months of age before spay. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Mature weight should be around 12 pounds. Adoption fee is $250. An unplanned breeding and instead of spaying the mom right away, they had four pups. A friend took the two male pups and another friend and Good Samaritan friend to our rescue, took these two gals. When old enough to spay they called us and we accepted them. Dora and her sister Daisy. Dora is the braver of the two, although both are pretty brave, being more like the Australian Terrier. Both love to be held and will actually lean on Michael and I when we love on them in the evenings. They are active kids and want to kiss the face of each of us because they are SO happy for love time. Not dogs for small kids, but for kids age 8 and up who are not hyper. Very active kids make for very active terriers. In my opinion, they are typical small breed terriers. I taught dog obedience for over 14 years then went full time rescue. Good natured, typical small breed terriers. See also the post for her sister DAISY MAY I. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Mature weight is between 70-75 pounds. Adoption fee is $250. Call 573-722-3035 to adopt: Sammy is SUCH a loving dog, submissive, who likes children, however he worried around male dogs and as you read, you will understand why. Sammy was a stray in Butler County, found after either attacked by a pack of dogs or coyotes. He was cared for by the veterinarian in Doniphan MO until we were asked to take ownership of him. The attack was pretty traumatic for Sammy and although he is good on a leash around other dogs, he is worried about male dogs around him, particularly intact males. So it is possible he was attacked when around a female in heat and he may have been attacked by other intact males. He had a very special girl friend named Suzie, who was a smaller Lab pit mix. She was adopted and now he has no one to play with... To keep him safe he has a HUGE dog yard to roam when not kenneled in a spacious outdoor. Sammy gets to come into his foster family's house and he seems to be house broke with no bad habits. He is so easy going! Look at his photos. You can SEE his submissive and gentle manner in his eyes and ear set. It was very difficult getting any photos with his ears in a natural forward stance. He always wants to show his human friends respect. LOVE THIS GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!! To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Mature weight should be 20-25 pounds. Adoption fee is $200. Meet FACEBOOK, a Beagle, Dachshund, German Shepherd mix also possibly with some Chihuahua in there somewhere. She was one of 21 dogs we rescued from a family in Puxico lin 2018 which had been covered in fleas and ringworm and the poor babies were skin on bones. We had been called for two reasons by his disabled owners: for dog food and they asked if we could help find them homes. I also brought dewormer with me. This pup was about 4-months of age when I first met the group. I would meet them again in a couple weeks to give shots and each got a NEXGARD for fleas and ticks. Like a miracle, the single dose of NEXGARD also healed the dogs from the ringworm, which I had earlier confirmed with a test. You can imagine the majority of the group did not get a lot of socialization but were non-the-less human friendly. FACEBOOK wants love but still acts like it is a game for me to catch her, then submits and especially loves treats hand fed. I am looking for dog savvy owners for these siblings and all are also listed on our Petfinder site. She will do well alone or with other dogs. I suggest the other dogs be larger. She is a mild alpha, and would be best with a larger male. Requires a fenced-in yard or a home in the city where she is on a leash. $200 to adopt. I am looking for dog savvy owners for these siblings and all also listed on our Petfinder site. He will do well alone or with other dogs. I suggest the other dogs be larger. Mature weight should be 25-30 pounds Adoption fee is $FREE. Meet APPLE, a Beagle, Dachshund, German Shepherd mix also possibly with some Chihuahua in there somewhere. He has finer bone and resembles a mini German Shepherd mix. He was one of 21 dogs we rescued from a family in Puxico lin 2018 which had been covered in fleas and ringworm and the poor babies were skin on bones. We had been called for two reasons by his disabled owners: dog food and could we help find them homes for many dogs. I brought dewormer with me too. Even though not handled a lot they were non-the-less human friendly. Apple is the main alpha of the group. He appreciates love but still acts like it is a game for me to catch him, then submits and especially loves treats hand fed. High food motivation in this group. I am looking for dog savvy owners for these siblings which are all listed on our Petfinder site. He will do well alone or with a larger female. Mature weight should be 42 pounds. . Adoption fee is $250. Cindy Lucy was a stray found in the Wappapello Lake MO area. She was thin and when she found a nice family she stayed until we were able to make room. She is highly food motivated. She is also VERY smart and loves human contact. She learns fast. I spent about three minutes to teach her to sit to take a treat. Next day, SIT to take a treat right away. However, she is squirmy like a worm on a hook due to the excitement of the treat and attention. For that reason only I say she is not a good choice for a family with small kids. She would knock them down with the happy wiggle she has. She really wants a dog savvy home that wants a companion to take for walks every day, even to jog. She will be in your lap if you are face level, so SO happy you are willing to be her level. Lots of love to give and get with this gal! Six photos: first four are recent. Last two were the day after he was found, very thin during a hard cold spell. Poor guy had really suffered as a stray. Mature weight is around 50 pounds. Age estimated at 2 years. Adoption fee is $200. ALBERT BOSCO was found by the Albertson family along Hwy 34, east of Marble Hill Missouri. He is lucky to be alive. He is VERY smart and video's are available to show you how well he fetches and how smart he is with his obedience lessons. This guy wants to please. He will be a devoted companion for a dog lover. Mature weight is 42 pounds. Estimated age of this former stray is June 1, 2018. She was 8-10 months at time of listing. Adoption fee is $250. This gal was a stray in the Wappapello Lake area. She would not leave the home of the Good Samaritan who had plenty of their own dogs. She was around small kids at their home. CINDY LUCY is VERY smart. She is so food motivated, surely since she was pretty thin when first found. Even though she is so intoxicated by food, she still uses her brains and learned SO fast to sit to get a treat, probably in two minutes! The next day she immediately SAT to get a treat. Before that she was jumping in the air with excitement, running in circles waiting for me to feed her!!!!!!! This gal on day two, learned to sit and look in my eyes to get the treat. This took about a minute. She puts lessons learned in her memory bank and retains those FAST lessons!!!!! This gal is not a sleeper. CINDY LUCY needs a home that is fun, no couch potatoes for her. She should be very good in a home with another dog to also play with or an active owner who likes to go for walks or even jog. Her shiney short Beagle type coat will be easy to bathe, a bonus for her owner. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Mature weight about 50 pounds of PURE MUSCLE. Purebred Blue Heeler BLUE was found as a stray after being hit by a vehicle. His last photo shows the injuries from broken skin which quickly healed. All other photos are from about three weeks later. We posted Blue on Petfinder and would learn his whole story... As a young dog he was also hit and had a fracture to the hip. So that explained his slight limp in the back. He had been purchased by a cattle rancher in the area and was considered worthless after that, so an employee took him. Blue LOVED him and went everywhere with the employee, including to work. When the employee left and got a different job he felt bad for Blue and gave him to his uncle who was disabled and who wanted Blue as a companion. That was when Blue got hit a second time and was found by the Caldwell family, who called the vet and then the vet called us to help this "stray" who was loosing weight, apparently lost and injured. I met Blue that day at the vet's office and found him to be a dog with an amazing temperament. All that pain and he knew not a stranger... Blue has a thing for chasing vehicles so he needs a fenced in yard OR a home where he is put on a leash when taken out for a walk. His country days are OVER! He needs a home where he can be the center of attention. He is 4-5 years of age. Adoption fee is $200. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Cole Ville was a stray found in December of 2018, severely starved at the time. His teeth are typical of a dog age 4. He is fostered on a farm with dogs, cats and livestock which he leaves alone. We also have his sister MISSY MICHELLE, who unless adopted is also listed on our Petfinder site. He was found on a remote road in northern Bollinger County, standing in a ditch near his sister. She was lying in a puddle of mud, in pain from being hit by a vehicle over a week earlier, and bearing two broken legs. He stayed with her which is like a story from a child's book on his devotion. We don't know if they were dumped or if they did not make it home from a hunting excursion. It is apparent he is the alpha of the two. He also likes to display alpha behaviors to any new dog entering his pen. So we recommend he is best as the only dog, but he likes company, so a family with kids ages 10 and up because we don't want him thinking small kid's toys are his toys! He is not lazy but not hyper either. BEST in a home where his owners like to take daily walks or have a fenced in yard and will spend time with him. CLEAN in the pen, not a marker either so he should be easy to house train. Mature weight should be 40-45 pound range. Adoption fee is $200. Dirty and Dandy Logan loves to play in the mud and water. This poor guy in in an outdoor kennel, albeit a 48 x 25 size, but when loose he wants to hunt and play is the dirt...so for his safety from coyotes and the road at the end of our very long driveway, he is stuck outside... What a shame............ BEAUTIFUL dog when cleaned up but hard to get a photo of him until he runs out some of the "caged up energy", so these are the best I have at the moment... Sorry! ! ! SWEET temperament, a bit reserved, for a few seconds, he was one of five pups we took this summer after being abandoned, then taken to a vet office in Butler County. We have NO clue of true identity genetically, so we guess Schnauzer and Lab according to the other pups. He also has two sisters who have smooth coats and look Lab and Rat Terrier (Shelby still needs to be adopted). One sister who looks like him who is already adopted. He needs a dog savvy family. Leash work just started and he is scared of the leash... So we are needing work. Mature weight should be 40 pounds or a bit more. Adoption fee is $250. Shelby is playful and a mild alpha. Best in a home with larger dogs, male or female, but she especially likes males. She can be too bossy for small or submissive dogs or dogs who want to defend toys or deer bones she finds. For this reason, I will not adopt to families with kids under age 10. We have listed Shelby for $100 less than we normally do because we need her to be finding a home quickly. She likes to run and hunt and has started to leave the front yard. We can't have this, because we don't want her to start wandering. She can be a bit stubborn, not come when called if she finds a rabbit trail, so I will only adopt to a city family or county who have a FENCED in Yard or who keeps their pooch on a leash when outside. She LOVES attention, wants it. Yet is curious and wants to explore when she gets a chance to be loose in our house. Mature weight should be 40 pounds or less. more like 35 pounds. Donnie was found near ARAB as a stray with a very PG Rat Terrier mix gal, dumped along side a busy highway. The property owner is elderly so we stepped in to make room for the pair of very good natured dogs. We transferred the female to a St. Louis rescue: Camp Chaos. We named Donnie after his savior Good Samaritan. GREAT dog for kids. He likes to follow us around the yard, watching and keeping close. GREAT DOG for a hiker too. He is LOYAL. Will stand up for himself. Does not run or hunt. VICE: easily jumps and crawls out of a 4 foot fence. He needs an electrified or wooden fence. Seems to be house broke. NOT a marker when outside either. Crate trained. Adoption fee $250. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Mutley fetches, and fetches and fetches! He is a good spirit with kids and likes female dogs, but had an issue with other dogs who challenge him. He was GREAT with our alpha and dogs when here a short time, but does not like two forward males at his foster's home. So he is best in a home with a female dog. He came from a home, as a former stray (stray as a small pup) who had five foster kids. This guy LOVED them but started to run and run on a busy highway, so to save his life, he ended up with us... This gal came to us this summer starved, with a severely broken hind leg. We learned who her owner was but when I contacted authorities, to my knowledge, nothing was done. She now runs fast and freely without her leg bothering her. We named Pamela after her savior. This gal was found by a St. Louis area gal whose mom lived where this stray was found. Pam got online to find our number and because she had a broken leg, even being full, we took this pup in. When Pamela first came here she was a submissive-pee dog being worried we were going to beat her. Her behavior, her body language, was becoming of such a dog. A real submissive dog with this issue is harder to train out of the ducking and peeing, and her "ducking" was indicative of overreach by previous "care takers", not that she is genetically wimpy. So her submissive behavior is due to previous care being heavy handed. When on a leash she cowers down in a worried state as you will see in all photos while on leash. Those photos taken in the field and when she is "free" show happy character. Because she has such a short coat we only have one pen she can be kept in which has heated dog houses. She is kenneled with Boston Terrier mix LILY, her weight, and a male named WISEMAN who is a Mountain Cur. She must be kenneled in a pen while here because she won't stay home. She is a hunter, a runner. We will only adopt her to a city home where she will be kept on a leash. Pamela is best in a home with male dogs of medium to large size. She is coming a year of age, weight is about 35-40 pounds. We were told she is a Rat Terrier and Pit mix. We "see" the Rat Terrier but am unsure of the Pit, so suspect one parent may have been a pit type mix, even boxer with her color and size, frame/build. Adoption fee is $100. a steal for a dog we have over $700 in vetting bills. We had received some money in a fund-raising attempt to help pay her bills. Call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 to adopt. Mature weight should be 35-40 pounds. Adoption fee is $100. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. VERY loving dog who will lick your face at a high speed if you get low enough. She can't show enough gratitude for having a good life and simply loves humans and dogs of all sizes alike. Missy Michelle was found by a VERY kind Good Samaritan. We feel this dog had been seen by many other vehicles as she lay along the side of the road for 10 to 14 days before she was picked up, very thin, lying in a mud puddle for water in a ditch. She had her brother with her who is a red sable. The Good Samaritan is a mobile dog groomer who called and asked us for help. We accepted here and she was taken to Lacroix Pet Hospital in Cape Girardeau where she would get surgery for her hip after a hold period of five days. No owner would come forward. She had a shoulder bone broke front left and the hind left femur bone was broken and removed in surgery when spayed. Her shoulder had already started to fuse and was too old by that time to plate or pin. So her front leg is about an inch or less shorter on the left but it does not affect her running or walking as seen in the photos. We are seeking a home for her where the dogs are not too hard at playing and not too large if they like to play. She is playful and adventurous. Not shy, very VERY smart. Mature weight should be around 50 pounds Must have a fenced in yard or always walk on a leash. She has a hunting drive and a GREAT tracking nose. HIGH FOOD DRIVE so can be easy to train, also being a very smart gal! Adoption fee is $250. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. CATO Is part of the EPIC PALS PROGRAM where she is being trained by kids to do the basic commands. She is not very food motivated but responds to love and affection. She was found as a STRAY and after the Good Samaritan caught her and took photos she would not come up to strangers again until we live trapped her a month later, when I finally got room to take her. She was fed all that while by the property owners and us. She acted dull, like she had no life. WE BELIEVE that she had been loved by and elderly person who may have died or gone into a nursing home. We can't explain how she is house broke, super sweet, no aggression tendencies and yet she was so blank, so dull for a few weeks while here. Tail hung straight down for about a week and a half. FINALLY she wagged it one day when I walked up to her. That was the beginning a real transition in her personality to the positive, My husband wanted me to keep this gal, and we both love her THAT MUCH! But we don't need another dog and she would be much happier in a quieter home than our crazy rescue camp. Not a dog to be put under a great deal of stress. If you have wild kids and or a lot of very young kids, NO kids who like to be loud... don't call for this gal . . You would make her life miserable. Mature weight should be 18 pounds. Adoption fee is $250. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Please leave your telephone if you send us a request to adopt so I can contact you! ROSS: Mature weight is 40 pounds. Estimated age is May 12, 2018. THIS DOG HAS THE TEMPERAMENT TO BE A MEDICAL ALERT DOG FOR SEIZURES OR LOW BLOOD SUGAR TRAINING. VERY SENSITIVE TO SMELL, VERY DEVOTED DOG, VERY SOCIAL DOG, CONFIDENT DOG. SMART. HE WANTS TO PLEASE YOU. High food drive and will be very easy to train. He loves personal time and melts in my arms. Does not know a stranger. NOT shy. He LOVES to ride with me on the Gator, He is a very good traveler. GREAT nose for a tracker. He will require a fenced yard when mature or may be gone hunting. He and his little sister were found as strays, so weak from starvation and covered in fleas and ticks. Her name is BETSY., as in Betsy Ross since they were found just before INDEPENDENCE DAY. She has been adopted and they LOVE her too. Ross is house trained, crate trained, good on a leash. Three weeks after we accepted these strays we would learn a neighbor had owned them. He, disabled and too poor to take proper care of them, could not pay us back for our vet bills. We have paid the vet bills to get the two mother dogs spayed. The very young pups had apparently followed the adult dogs and were too tired in the heat to track back home, being at least a mile from home at age 6-8 weeks old. Adoption fee is $250. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Please leave your telephone if you send us a request to adopt so I can contact you! TRACY REMINGTON is looking for an active owner who is dog savvy. This guy is SMART but also driven with a curious temperament. He wants to see and needs to know...What is that over there??? All the pups from his litter looked like purebred Labs except for that white on almost all of them...just a little... Mom was a solid black Lab looking gal, a PG stray from the Glenn Allen area of Missouri. So his blood history is unknown. Would he make a good hunting dog? I have NO idea. He is a guy who will run and have fun. So a fenced in yard is a must. NOT a couch potato. This guy would LOVE a family who likes to bike or job. Walks a must to keep him happy. Mature weight around 70-75 pounds. Adoption fee is $200. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. September 8 of 2017 we received a call about two Heelers between Patton and Marble Hill Missouri, laying in a ditch together. Drivers noticed them several days in a row. Finally a Good Samaritan found them in their yard and called us. One of them had a severely broken leg, which had to be amputated and he has been adopted. Many things were touching about this couple's story. PAISLEY never left MERLE'S side. She was devoted to him. Folks stepped up to help them, first being concerned about seeing them but then later when they realized Merle was injured, they called to save his life. Then they drove the pair to the vet. THEN Rachel Riley, a faithful follower, a dog trainer, and a VET TECH, called us offering to foster them. There is NO taking the prey drive out of PAISLEY. She also likes a playmate dog but they must be submissive and like to play HARD! RACHEL WROTE: "PAISLEY is a very high energy girl who would do best with lots of outside time. She gets along with other medium-large dogs and people well, but needs a home with no small animals or young children or access to chickens, ducks or rabbits. While she struggles with impulse control, she learns new tasks quickly... ...With her high energy and prey drive, she will wander if left out unconfined so a fenced in area would be best so she can run safely. Don't be fooled by her rambunctious nature, she is still a cuddle bug. Her favorite place to be is on the couch with you or at your feet." Rachel said that Paisley would have accidents in her crate. So we suggest you feed a really good food like NUTRO LAMB and RICE, also offering vegetables like green beans, cabbage, broccoli, or carrots to help her have a 12 hour schedule and to feed 1.5 to 1.75 cups of food twice daily. Please no water before crating long periods. Have a tight feeding schedule and use her food for training treats. Train her at meal time so she is fed on a schedule which includes her treats. A dog needs to urinate 45 to 60 minutes after drinking. So manage the water before crating. With her well insulated coat she is a good candidate to be an outdoor dog during the day and must have a fenced in yard or she stays here if loose outside. Mature weight is between 40-45 pounds. Adoption fee is reduced to $200. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. Please leave your telephone if you send us a request to adopt so I can contact you! Ruth was one of seven 4 mo old pups that we accepted 7 years ago. The owners were so poor having had a child that was severely crippled, yet they had a purebred Golden Retriever female and a male Border Collie who mated and had a beautiful litter of pups. They had trouble marketing them then called us when the litter was about age 4 months. They were being kept in a chicken coop which had shade but was off a hill side which flooded when it rained. We were called to take this litter just before the 500 year flood when our area received 24 to 29" of rain in a day or two. We had tornado's, and it was a scary and disaster period. NEW volunteers Karen and Randy Sanders agreed to take three and we made room for four of the pups which were not well socialized at the time, being locked up and given little affection. After accessing the need and size of the dogs the rain started to pour. Between the storms the Sanders and I went to get the pups. They were standing in 6-8" of sloppy mud, covered in filth, having only the tops of the chicken nests for protection from the mud. We were covered in slop from head to toe, having to catch the slippery dogs and carry them out because they had no idea what a leash or collar was... Their rescue was the most memorable in my rescue history because of the condition of the dogs and the danger we went through to get them between the flooding and dangerous storms. We bathed, vetted, and loved on them, and they quickly learned to love us. We gave them all names from the Bible because their rescue was miraculous! Ruth and her brother Boaz lived with Karen and Randy and were adopted by a family in Wayne County. That family recently divorced after an illness of the wife. We were told the wife could not care for the dogs any longer and we took them back as we do require in our contract. They were outdoor dogs let in during the very hot or very cold weather. Here they are inside dogs only let out to play, exercise and potty. They have never eliminated in the house or their crate, letting us know they need out by going to the door. Mature weight is in the 60 pound area. Adoption fee is $100 for RUTH or $100 for her brother BOAZ. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 from 9:30am to 9:30pm CENTRAL TIME. ALWAYS give your phone number when you inquire for more information about one of our pets. You will get a faster reply to your inquiry ... DEE DOLLY DO is estimated d.o.b. 3/30/15. She was a former stray, found with a younger male pup that was very German Shepherd in appearance. They were found in the Aquilla MO area. Dolly is a playful gal, who is kenneled with an active male large Lab (Remington also may still be on our Petfinder page). They play so well and eat together, no arguments but going from each other's bowl until they finish. I believe she will be better in a home with medium to large males as she can play kind of hard. She is also a mild alpha, so I would not place her in a home with another female and no cats. She has prey drive. We treated her for Heartworms last summer. She is in great health and is a dog who enjoys to be petted.. This poor gal has been locked in a 16 x 32 pen since 9/21/17, over a YEAR! No interest in her and we are shocked... Someone please give her a home. Fenced in yard or a city home where she goes out on a leash. She is a hunter, and was found as a stray, we think lost after a storm. So she will possibly not be loyal to your property if not contained in a fence or on a leash when out. Mature weight should be 40 pounds. Adoption fee is $200. This charming and handsome guy likes to bark, that is his hunting instinct, so he needs training to be quiet if you live in town and have neighbors with dogs. His barking at movement would be very good for someone needing a guardian in the house or yard. Wiseman's gait is so BEAUTIFUL to watch. He glides with a slightly higher step like an English style horse would. He is fun to watch move! About 45 pounds, this guy is built to be a joggers best friend. He needs a family who likes to walk their dog. I have no idea how he is with cats, but I got him because he was about to be shot for trying to get a farmer's turkeys!!! I will suggest this hunting dog would not be good with cats at large. We are unable to have him as a house dog here because he is a hunter and would possibly roam off the property. I am listing him as house broke because he only eliminates outside and along the fence line, being a very "clean" dog in a large kennel. He wants his house clean. Actual house training should be very easy with Wiseman. He had a foster for a couple days but their alpha male did not like Wiseman. Wiseman did try to mark once in the house but a firm correction and then taking him outside JUST ONCE and he did not try to do that again. This guy BONDS quickly. He loves human contact. He may display jealously for his person so we think he would be BEST as the only dog unless you are dog savvy. He HUGS me and hugged his foster family dad, kids and mom. Their son was in tears when they had to return this loving dog... I am looking for a city home with a fenced in yard, 5 -6 feet tall. GREAT with female dogs. He was good around male dogs in the yard too. To adopt call Marilyn at 573-722-3035. Adoption fee is $100. Transport assistance may be available. We adopt all over the USA.

Two kitties need a home. Yes, we are trying to adopt these two together. House kitties loved by their foster family. Black and white is the care taker for the black kitty. Here is their story: The little black kitty is a male. His name is Cowboy because his hind legs are bowed like a cowboy who grew up with his legs wrapped around a saddle and stout belly steed. This is because when Cowboy was a tiny kitten he was found in a creek. His hind legs broken. We think he was tossed in the rocks out of a moving vehicle or tossed at the bridge. We really don't know so this awful story is really speculation and I really should not speculate ... When Lori McCormick and her daughter first found Cowboy he was so terrified he would not come to them. They knew he was very young: the vet said he was about 7 weeks of age. He also looked tough, being very skinny. They came back in a couple days and he was still there. So they used smelly food and were able to catch him. I remember getting a call from Lori about this kitten. She was so upset about his condition and we both wondered how he had been hurt: was he thrown onto the rocks or broken by some other manner. So when she brought him home Buddy, the black and white stray cat from the year before, took over and nurtured this kitten. They so love each other that we are going to try and find a home for them together. $200 gets two cats, a savings of about $250 to you! Both cats have all their shots, and are altered, Feline Leukemia negative. Call Marilyn at 573-722-3035 or email at ace@clas.net.
